Kids Program 8-13 Years Karate and Sambo Mixed Classes

This class is for the development of both Karate (Striking) and Sambo (Throws and Grappling). Each class, Kids learn the physical skills of Karate like punching, kicking, knees, elbows, blocking, parrying, evading, and are trained to develop speed and power in their techniques. We use a variety of pads and bags as well as partner drills. The 2nd part of each class is in the training of Sambo, specifically how to takedown or throw an opponent, defend against takedowns, and how to fight once on the ground, including escapes, hold downs, and submissions. Kids learn how to 'grapple' by first being put in isolated positions with specific goals, and quickly progressing to being able to play the full game of grappling with resistance. We put strong emphasis on developing skills quickly that can be used in real life situations.

Required for class:

1. Register and pay your first month's fee.

2. One of the following: a White or Blue Karate, Judo, or Jiujitsu Uniform, Or a Blue or Red Sambo Jacket. Shorts and T-shirt can be worn temporarily if you are unable to get one quickly. If you would like to order a White Karate uniform, please visit the 'Membership Join Now' page.

3. Water bottle recommended.

Class Rules:

1. Try your best to be on time. If you are late, come into class quietly and wait for the instructor to get you involved.

2. Be respectful of others and the gym. Don't touch anyone or anything without permission.

3. Parents may stay and watch class but must stay off mat and refrain from interacting with the class.

4. Martial Arts training is fun! It is important that we have a friendly environment for students to grow. However, we do expect students to exercise good behavior and self-control. A student that is distracting to the class or displays poor behavior will be asked to sit out. This is not a babysitting class, students are required to put forth serious effort.

5. The other kids are your training partners and friends while in class. Work on your own improvement rather than competing with others. We do play a variety of combat games and fun contests that bring out a healthy competitive spirit.

Note for Parents:

Martial Arts training, unlike sports, should always be about the development of the participants and their character. When kids or adults learn how to fight, how to literally use their body as a weapon, it comes with the responsibility of learning when and why to use these skills. Each class we discuss with the kids things like Respect, Self-Control, Self-Discipline and Effort.
